As Assistant Treasurer and Budget Director of the McGovern campaign, I solicited a large gift from my mother, an activist (civil rights worker in the fifties and sixties, later founder of Kansas Advocates for Better Care as well as Kansas Audio-Reader Network). With my father's knowledge, she gave about $30,000 from their joint checking account. Since Nixon's people were sexist, they put my father, a violin professor, on the List.
