I am a longtime member of the George Wiley Center in Rhode Island, where George Wiley was born and grew up. He attended the University of Rhode Island and became a chemistry professor at Syracuse University before forming the National Welfare Rights Organization. His biography, A Passion for Equality, was written by Nick and Mary Lynn Kotz. He died in a boating accident in 1973. The Wiley Center was founded by Henry Shelton in 1981 to carry on his legacy of organizing for social and economic justice. He has two children, Ben and Maya, both I believe in New York. I have met Ben, but am not well acquainted with either. Maya, I believe, works with the Center for Social Inclusion in New York City.
